Today I am going to take some time to answer the questions I get asked often from other climbers on Instagram and in the gym.

WHAT SHOES DO YOU WEAR?

I use the Evolv Shamans for warming up, and then I wear La Sportiva Futuras as my performance shoe.

SHOULD I CLIMB INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?

Both are diffent but have similarities. Some climbers would tell you that outdoor climbing is real climbing and indoor is just for training. But my opinion is that you should try both and focus on whichever you love.

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOU SKIN FROM HURTING WHEN CLIMBING?

I use WOD Welder: Handcare for Athletes almost every night right before bed. Especially if my skin is hurting or if I have a long day of climbing or setting the next day.

DO YOU PREFER STATIC OR DYNAMIC CLIMBING?

For me this is an easy answer, Dynamic all the way. I am working on being more static and slowing down my climbing.

WHAT ARE SOME TIPS FOR IMPROVING MY MENTAL GAME?

Relax, relax, relax some more. The calmer and focused you are the better you will execute on the wall. My other tip would be how

I'M AN INTERMEDIATE CLIMBER, HOW CAN I IMPROVE?

I would say my biggest recommendation is to find a few people who are stronger climbers than you and climb with them. Watch how they use their hips, how they drive with their, toes and the speed at which they climb. If you can't find anyone, then watch the top athletes in the world online looking for the things mentioned above.

HOW CAN I IMPROVE FOOTWORK?

I would spend 10-20 minutes after your warm up, traversing or climbing on easy problems only focusing on placing your toe once and being precise. Footwork is a skill you have to spend time working on, if you don't set aside to work on it specifically, you won't improve quickly.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLIMB?

Depends on lots of factors, but I would say 3-5 days a week is the right amount. The key is to listen to your body, and not push it if you aren't feeling great.

WHEN SHOULD I GET MY SECOND PAIR OF SHOES?

I would say to get a new, tighter, pair of shoes when you are improving and getting to around 5.10 / V2-3 range.

Those are some of the main questions I get asked on a frequent basis. I hope you were able to get a few takeaways that you can apply right away.
