Dealing With Haters (Challenges of Being Chalked Climber)
Updated: Apr 25, 2019
Pursuing your goals isn't easy.
Today and the last couple weeks have been pretty rough on me. Producing all this climbing content, and dealing with a lot of hate has been hard on me. I'm writing this article to give you some insight into the challenges of putting yourself out there on social media and following your dreams.
DEALING WITH HATERS:
Being a mainly indoor climber and mostly posting content from my gym, I've gotten quite a bit of hate from outdoor climbers who say things like; "You're not a real climber" "You're in a gym, why does this matter?" "How does such bad climber have so many followers?" People have also called me "vile". These types of messages and comments are pretty typical. I try to not let it affect me but over time and when lots come in a day that's really hard. I would say I'm a confident person but some days I feel pretty terrible and question why I'm doing this. Just being 100% honest with you.
WHY I AM DOING THIS:
My goal has never been to post and make you think I'm a great climber. It has always been to share my passion with others and to create a community to connect climbers from all around the world. And I feel like I'm moving in the right direction but also constantly learning along the way.
Just wanted to share with you some of the downs because it really is so many valleys for every hill. So huge thanks to all of you who have supported me throughout the last 7 or so months! This isn't meant to make you pity me, just sharing my experience with you and being real.
