HOW TO: Enjoy Climbing More

Updated: Jun 13, 2019

Sometimes we forget how much fun climbing is because we get caught up in grades, injuries, fear of judgment and so much more. To fight that below I'll share the keys to enjoying climbing again, more than ever before.

TAKE A MINUTE TO REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU CLIMBED

When you take a few minutes to remember the first time you were introduced to climbing and decided to give it a go. Remember how proud and excited you were when you first made it to the top of the wall? Now, look at where you are and how you are making it to the top of climbs that you couldn't have dreamt of doing when you first started. That's one of the fantastic parts of climbing in my opinion.

SPEND A SESSION JUST HAVING FUN

One of my favorite things to do when I am not motivated and feeling weak overall. I choose to make my next session as fun and light as possible; I don't plan any training specific drills and only focus on what climbs I enjoy and climb without expectations for fun. Just like when you were first climbing, you were climbing whatever and having a blast. This sometimes helps you enjoy climbing again; it works even better if your fun session can be with some great climbing friends.

WATCH OLD CLIMBING VIDEOS OF YOURSELF

Of course, if you don't take videos of yourself, this will be hard. But this is one of the reasons I suggest that people looking to improve, should take videos of themselves climbing. When you see yourself move on the wall and the climbs you were doing back then, you'll be so impressed and excited by how far you've come. So if you don't take videos of yourself climbing right now, start today!

That's all for today come back tomorrow at 6 pm (Pst) for another blog post.
